Privacy

Short version: I collect as little as I can, I do not sell anything about you, and you can ask me to delete it.

What I collect, and where it goes

If you subscribe to Green Fire Letters, Substack holds your email address and your reading activity. If you pay for a subscription, Substack and Stripe handle the payment. I never see your card details. Substack’s own privacy policy governs that data.

If you book a call, Acuity Scheduling holds your name, email and whatever you write in the booking form.

If you email me, I have your email in my inbox until I delete it.

If you visit this site, Squarespace records standard analytics: pages viewed, roughly where in the world you are, what device you used. It uses cookies to do that. I look at this in aggregate, to know which essays people actually read.

If you message me on Instagram, Meta holds that conversation, and an automation tool called ManyChat may hold it too. Meta’s policies govern that, not mine.

What I do not do

I do not sell your data. I do not rent it. I do not share your email with anyone except the services above that need it to work.

Health information

Some of you write to me about your diagnosis. I treat those emails as private and I do not share them, quote them, or publish them without asking you first and getting a yes.

Cookies

This site uses cookies for analytics and for basic functionality. You can block them in your browser and the site will still work.

Your choices

Unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of it.
Ask me what I hold about you, and I will tell you.
Ask me to delete it, and I will.

Where you live may give you more rights than that, including under GDPR in the UK and EU and the CCPA in California. Ask and I will honour them.

Children

This site is not for under 16s and I do not knowingly collect anything about them.

Changes

If this changes materially I will say so at the top of this page with a date.
